Graduated in Piano and Harmony, she receives a scholarship from the Séneca Foundation to continue her studies in Orchestra Conducting at the City of Vienna Conservatory, having Reinhard Schwarz and Georg Mark as instructors, and earning the grade of “Magna Cum Laude with special mention”.
Since then, she has successfully conducted the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra(Canadá), Symphony Orchestra Radio Vienna, Wiener Kammerorchester, México National Orchestra, Singapore Festival Orchestra, Brasilia National Orchestra, Montepellier National Orchestra, Santo Domingo National Orchester where she collaborated with Philippe Entremont, Arthur Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra (Poland), Vienna Conservatory Orchestra, Biel Symphony Orchestra (Switzerland), Spanish National Orchestra, Barcelona
Symphony Orchestra, Oviedo Filarmonía, Asturias Symphony Orchestra, Castilla León Symphony Orchestra, Murcia Symphony Orchestra, Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra, Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Windband of Madrid, Bilbao, Vitoria and Valencia, and Orchestras of Valencia, Granada, Córdoba, Extremadura, Navarra, Menorca, Sant Cugat and Vallés.
In January 2004, she was awarded “Youth of the Year” by the Region of Murcia and was appointed assistant to Bertrand de Billy at Barcelona’s Gran Teatro del Liceu and in September 2005 assistant to Yaron Traub at Valencia Symphony Orchestra.
In December 2009, she toured the United States with concerts at the Lincoln Center (New York) and at the McCormick Place (Chicago).
In April 2010, she conducted the Vienna Conservatory Symphony Orchestra at the prestigious Proms in the Austrian capital.
Virginia Martínez has worked under the stage direction of José Carlos Plaza, Emilio Sagi, Paco Azorín, Bárbara Lluch and Juan Echanove and with soloists such as Javier Perianes, Boris Belkin, Joaquín Achúcarro, Judith Jáuregi, Fazil Say, María Espada, Jose Antonio López, Cristina Faus, María Bayo, Pablo Ferrández, Christian Poltera, Gabriela Montero, Joaquín Riqueme and Clara Andrada, to name a few.
In 2016, the town of Molina de Segura opened the Auditorio “Virginia Martínez
Fernández” in her honor.
In 2019 she was awarded as “Women of the Year” by the prestigious prices of “Mujer Hoy” a national Spanish magazine. On 8th March she was also distinguished as “Women of the Year 2018 in Murcia” by the regional government of Murcia highlighting that “she is one of the most important and young orchestra conductors of the international scene”, as well as “for her exceptional human qualities and for her teaching works” result of her
extraordinary work to bring closer classical music to the young audience.
She has been Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the Region of Murcia and the Youth Orchestra of the Region of Murcia, for 11 and 18 seasons, respectively.
She is currently Honorary Conductor of the OSRM, Principal Conductor of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Cantabria and Professor of Orchestra Conducting at the Murcia Music Conservatory.
